Organically Grown Pindaya Black Tea from Myanmar

We are thrilled to offer this organic Pindaya Black Tea from Myanmar (also called Burma). It's a really great tea for a nice price. Made from a large leaf variety, it has that very familiar strong assamica black tea quality that's super satisfying. We get some honey sweetness with bakery spice and a whisper of fall leaves. It feels juicy in the mouth, with good structure and great salivation.

We really love teas from Myanmar, and this tea stands as a classic example. This tea comes from a third-generation family tea company that started with a small farm and factory in Pindaya in the 1960s and now works with a few hundred farmers in the area. The company earned Fair for Life certification, a third-party program for social accountability and fair trade, in 2019.

Myanmar teas are difficult to source due to ongoing challenges in the region. Shan State is home to some of the world's oldest and most valuable tea trees, but the region faces significant challenges. Myanmar has recorded more landmine casualties than any other country in recent years, with some areas too dangerous to harvest. Shan State's infrastructure needs considerable improvement, affecting tea production and transport. The ongoing armed conflict since the 2021 military coup has further complicated these challenges.
